Congratulations Mrs. McMahon!

I am proud to announce that Mrs. Martha McMahon was the recipient of the Master Adviser award for promoting Family, Community and Career Leaders of America. This is a high honor for her involvement with students, developing a relevant program of work, and encouraging youth-planned chapter projects. Congratulations to Mrs. McMahon!

Thank You Fremont County Community Foundation!

On April 22nd our school received a check for $7,500 from the Fremont County Community Foundation. I wrote the grant to Infuse 21st Century Skills into our English and Language Arts program. We will be using most of the funds to install Promethean boards into the elementary and secondary classrooms. I want to thank the Fremont County Community Foundation for their faith in our efforts to enlighten our student's education.

Stimulus Funding

On Tuesday, April 21st, the Department of Education announced funding awards for the Stimulus Package Information issued by the American Recovery and reinvestment Act (ARRA). Farragut's share of those awards is $25,824 for Title I and $36,787 for Part B IDEA funds. Guidance for districts on how to spend those funds over the next 20 months will be given over the next few weeks.

End of Phase I

At the end of the last legislation session our elected officials decided to delete Phase I which was put into the funding formula almost thirty years ago. This will cost the district $30,357 next year. That is a cut of $115.25 per pupil. Now, here is the funny thing and try not to laugh. Most districts with over 1,000 students lose only 2-15 dollars per student. So who is hurt by this legislation more? Small schools yet again! Here is yet another reason the funding formula for the state needs to be changed.

What we learned in Preschool and Kindergarten: Share…Share…Share

Over the past six years we have shared many programs, teachers and students. In these dark economic times it only means we must share more to provide quality programs. Below I have included a list of what we are planning to share next year as of 4-27-09. Students are still registering for classes and more talks continue, so please watch the website to see any additions in the near future!

School districts take great gains to "keep up" with technology. We run normal computers and terminal clients to save costs. These computers are old but run all of the programs off a server. I would like to see a one to one laptop program started in the high school, but money is too tight for that. Maybe someday...
